The small Fiat 600 was a very small car, it was designed by Dante Giacosa and made it by the Italian company Fiat from 1955 to 1982, so that is the reason of its name. It was the boom of all times around the world, other countries fabricated it too. The Fiat 600 Multipla was a great car also, and bigger than the other Fiat, it had space for six passengers. Now the Fiat 500 is very popular around the world.
Brief history of the small Fiat 600
The idea of the small Fiat 600 was born in 1951, it was going to replace the old Fiat 500 at that time. It was designed to give room four adults, and because they wanted to save in productions costs, they use cheaper engine but a very nice and faster one as well. They sketched day and night to obtain the best product, the last decisions were to use a rear engine with back wheel drive, and with all the smart people and engineers they developed a new and innovative engine, this one was the main engine for years, especially in the sixties, seventies, and eighties.
The small Fiat 600 was a simple but beautiful car, the radiator and transaxle were located in the rear, and it had four wheels independent suspension. The chassis and handling made of this car the best one in price and use, the great reviews put this car in the top of the most wanted cars of the history, because they were small and effective. People love it because it wasn’t hard to maintain and at the same time it wasn’t luxurious or anything alike.
The first sample didn’t have so much details as the ones that came after, one of the details the first small Fiat 600 didn’t have was seat belts, the gasoline tank was located under the hood, which was in front of the driver, and the highest speed you could drive with this car was up 95 km/h.
In 1956 the small Fiat 600 started its production in Germany, it had more hood caps, and very new and innovative windows. And every year this car had something new to show and to share, every time it was getting better and better. In 1959 the Argentinean government approved a long time Fiat proposal, investing more than 4.5 million dollars. In 1964 the new Weber carburettor tuned better the engine and finally the suicide doors disappeared, so by this time this car attached the doors in front.
1969 was the last year of the small Fiat 600 in Italy as a home production, because in 1970 the production tools and everything were sent to Spain. The last production had a number of 2.470.000 cars, and after that they move to Spain where the production of the Fiat 770 started.
The small Fiat 600 marked a great time in the history of cars, because even at the time of parking they took less space than others.
The great Fiat 600 Multipla
A difference of the small Fiat 600, the Fiat 600 Multipla was bigger, it was created after the World War II, and as the same of all the Fiat cars it was cheap to buy, to maintain, and to fix. The designer of this great car was Dante Giacosa, the same that created and designed the small Fiat 600. It worked as a useful replacement of the 500 Topolino. It had a very simple but powerful engine and a reasonable costs. The producers made more than 2.7 million cars, it was one of the most successful car creations of all time.
This car called station wagon, the Fiat 600 Multipla had three versions: the one that had between four or five seats, and it had a rear that could be folded to make a very comfortable bed. The second one had six seats and a front bench, the seats could folded until be flat and make a room for a mattress or so. The third one was a taxi version that just had one seat and a luggage platform in front. All the seats in the back were separated. They were great and well received by people who love the Fiat 600 car brand.
